Test mode and live
How test and live differ, and how to add fake money.
Test mode lets you build and try everything with fake money before your business is approved for live payouts. Test data lives in its own separate database, so nothing in test can touch real money or real people.
Which one am I in?
The credentials decide. A client ID starting tqz_test_ is test; tqz_live_ is live. The mode travels inside the token, so the same address and the same calls work for both.
| Test | Live | |
|---|---|---|
| Client ID starts | tqz_test_ | tqz_live_ |
| Money | Fake. Add it with sandbox/fund. | Real, from your funded balance. |
| Who can use it | Any business right after signing up. | After your business has been reviewed and approved. |
| Approvals | None needed, so batches run straight away. | Your approval rules apply; someone else must approve. |
| Where payments go | A pretend bank. | Real mobile money and banks. |
| Data | Its own database. | Your real records. |
Adding test money
Call POST /api/v1/sandbox/fund with test credentials that have the sandbox.fund scope. You can add 1 to 100,000 cedis a call. With live credentials this call answers 404.
Choosing an outcome
The pretend bank decides the result from the last four digits of the account number, so you can test failures too.
| Account number ends | Result |
|---|---|
| 9991 | Fails: INVALID_ACCOUNT, “The account is closed” |
| 9995 | Fails: TEMPORARY_ERROR, “The bank is temporarily unavailable” |
| 9992 | Fails the first time, succeeds when retried |
| anything else | Succeeds |
